Nature Connection Services

Rachel Howfield Massey specialises in the wellbeing benefits of creatively connecting with nature, with a practice underpinned by science and rooted in creativity.

Rachel is passionate about sharing the benefits of mindful connection with nature and since founding Other Ways to Walk in 2016, she has become a leader in the field of Green Prescribing and Nature Connection.

As well as Nature Fix, her online membership programme designed to reduce stress by connecting people with nature, Rachel offers training and development for organisations, and can also be contracted to deliver workshops and events for the public.

Training & development for organisations

Museums, gardens, heritage sites and national parks can all benefit from encouraging the public to engage more deeply with their outdoor space

Rachel provides training and development for organisations to upskill staff, volunteers and project partners. She guides organisations that welcome visitors to their outdoor spaces on how to include  nature connection in their engagement and wellbeing offer.

Rachel is an experienced, entertaining and engaging public speaker with extensive knowledge and experience in the field.

The training covers key principles in the benefits of connecting to nature to boost wellbeing. Rachel takes an experiential approach, encouraging participants to build their own nature connection practice and develop a personalised approach to facilitating nature connection with groups.

“I really liked the exercises... The best thing about it was Rachel - she has a gentle style, prompting and leading, allowing for us all to be different.” Participant, National Lottery Heritage Fund

Green Prescribing

Green prescribing is an innovative approach to wellbeing management that incorporates nature into the healing process. It is based on evidence that spending time in nature can positively impact mental and physical health.

In partnership with Green Prescribing programmes, Rachel delivers accessible mindful nature connection workshops and courses that can help adults to manage their own stress, anxiety, and depression, complementing any clinical treatment with long-term self-care strategies.

“I get a ‘Rachel said’ moment when I remember something you taught me and it helps me to do it again.” Dawn, Green Prescribing Course Participant

Nature Fix

Nature Fix is an online membership platform designed to reduce stress by connecting people with nature from the comfort of their own homes. Members access guided meditations, creative activities, and scientific research into the nature connection, for just £5 a month.

“My depression has lifted after a long scary 9 months. Nature Fix has helped me feel connected. Nature is where I can breathe & feel free & relaxed.”  Jean, Nature Fix Member

Workshops & events for the public

Your group or organisation can book Rachel to lead a forest bathing or mindful walking experience.

Forest bathing

Forest bathing immerses you in nature, encouraging you to take in the sights, sounds and smells of the forest. Studies show that forest bathing can reduce stress and anxiety and boost mood.

Mindful walking

Mindful walking combines the physical act of walking with mindfulness meditation. The goal is to be present in the moment, paying attention to the sensation of your feet hitting the ground, the sound of birds, the feeling of the wind, or the smells in the air.

Mindful walking can be practised anywhere, from a country park to a city street, and benefits include improved focus, better mind-body connection, and a sense of calm.

“It’s so precious to have time to allow yourself to do these things. Allow yourself to be first in your life for a change.” Janet, Workshop participant
