Bugs and Beasts

I’d forgotten how thickly dense the air is with insects in May. And how noisy their humming, whirring sound can be - drowning out distant noise of traffic. One of the participants on my Nightfall in the Woods event on Friday said she heard noises in the dark that sounded like ‘growing’. I think I heard them too, gentle popping and stretching sounds. So I’ve listened and watched in daylight and I think it’s the sound of flowers and seeds falling from trees. #caterpillar #spring #listeningtowoodland #woodland #trees #insects #bugs

Evening scent

The vapours of hawthorn and elder blossom mingling with cow parsley are almost cloying this evening, yet it’s not from warmth. I’ve had to wrap my scarf round my ears for warmth.
